Muslim feasts

The variety of Muslim feasts is not as broad as variety of feasts of other religions. Mohammed forbad his followers to take parts in those feasts that are provided by other nations and religions. He did so as he recognized taking part at those feasts as denial of Islam and Allah and following other religions. Though, there are a lot in common between some Muslim feasts and feasts of other religion.

There is a Great Lent Christians have to keep and there is an appropriate lent of Muslim people, that lent is called Ramadan. Ramadan lasts for a month and there are a lot of restrictions provided by Koran during Ramadan. First of all it is forbidden to eat during Ramadan. Eating is forbidden from sunrise till sunset. It is necessary for Muslim people to congratulate each other with Ramadan and wish each other patience and humility.

Another Muslim feast is called Kurban Bairam. It is a feast of sacrificial offering. It is a feast of end of hajji and it is celebrated on the tenth day of twelfth month of Muslim moon calendar. An animal is slaughtered for the sake of dead people. It is necessary for a sacrificed animal to be felt down with its head towards Mecca. Before an animal will be killed the words "Bissmillah, Allah Akbar" are pronounced.

These are the most popular feast of Islam and these are the only feasts that are celebrated with certain ceremony. Other feasts are the days people have to reveal their faith for Allah and there are no celebrations provided for those days. There are such Muslim feasts as jumma (the Friday), Arafat Day, Ashur Day and Night of Predetermination.
